Anode rods preserve the life of a water heater by corroding themselves so the water heater doesn't. Simply replace the 3/4 Inch pipe thread head drain plug with the anode rod to protect the tank.

There are two different rod options for the Suburban units. Both are in the links below and either aluminum or magnesium. Either will work but it is personal preference as to which. Aluminum tends to last longer but many people think it does not have as good of corrosive protecting abilities as magnesium.
